Where does the role fit in?

We deliver a specialist service that provides supported accommodation to homeless people aged 21+ recovering from alcohol and substance use issues or have been involved with Criminal Justice Services. We work closely with Pobl’s own treatment services as well as local recovery services to support people on their journey to recovery and facilitate a positive move on into independent living and re-settling into the community. This is an exciting opportunity as no 2 days are the same and you would be part of a team that is fundamental in providing high quality, person-centred support to all the people we support.

Our supported housing projects are based across Cardiff, including Fitzhamon Embankment, Ninian Road, and Newport Road, as well as lower-level supported accommodation at Richmond Road, Wyndham Crescent and Lower Cathedral Road.

As a Project Worker, you’ll lead each shift, oversee the smooth running of the scheme, and manage the Scheme Support Officers on duty.

Your day will consist of:

  • Engaging and interacting with the people we support
  • Writing and following a support plan with the individual you are supporting
  • Delivering workshops relating to tenancy management and health and wellbeing
  • Liaising with external agencies
  • Building community links and establishing partnerships that benefit our customers
  • Supporting with financial awareness and management
  • Carrying out health and safety checks, reporting repairs, making sure accommodation is secure and welcoming.
  • Encouraging daily living skills supporting
  • Crisis management and de-escalation responding calmly to challenging situations, safeguarding concerns or emergencies.
  • Promoting recovery and wellbeing by motivating and encouraging individuals to attend appointments, engage with treatment or take part in positive activities.
  • Recording and reporting by keeping accurate notes and updating case management systems.
  • Shift leadership by overseeing the running of the service, delegating tasks and being the support for Scheme Support Officers.
  • Encouraging social inclusion by supporting people to reconnect with family, friends, hobbies or community activities that matter to them.
  • Celebrating progress by recognising achievements, however small and helping people set realistic next steps.

Our motivation is to ensure we equip these individuals with the knowledge and tools they need to live independently. This is a challenging role and you will be faced with complex behaviours and needs, including alcohol use, mental health, substance use, and offending behaviour. You will work with a range of different personalities and behaviours so you will need to be able to adapt your approach to engage with a diverse cliental and manage disputes or conflicts appropriately.

Part of your role will also include sleep-in shifts at the scheme, where you will be provided with a secluded area that includes a newly-refurbished bedroom, ensuite bathroom, and kitchen facilities.

What are the pay and benefits?

  • Competitive salary of £26,072.00 + £62.64 for each sleep-in
  • Full-Time (37hrs), Permanent
  • Shift pattern: Our service is 24/7 and this is a day and evening post based on a rolling rota. Which would involve day shifts, sleep-ins & weekends.

  • 26 days (pro rata) holiday entitlement plus Bank Holidays, rising to 27 days after 1 years’ service or cash equivalent of 1 days’ annual leave
